WOOHOO !! I finally got a listing that works....
Now all we need is the over-the-air guide and I am set.... Don't forget HDTV when getting that listing working... I get a ton of HDTV stations in my area, 12 to be exact compared to only 4 analog stations. |

| I just downloaded the latest CT PVR listtings Beta and set up the account and my line up and the format to output it and clicked download, it shows that it is downloading and updates the last downloaded date but never creates an xml file from the download. I have tired all of the different output formats but none of them seem to work |

Hi pokerpitts,
The server logs show the xml data was sent to you. First you should click on the view button in the status area. If the file does not exits it will popup a window telling you. Second if above does not work, I sugest you enter the setup and select a new location to save the xml output file. Start the download again and click the view button when the download is done.
Regards,
Carm. |

| I did click on the view button and it told me the file was not found, it also says file not found just to the right of the button but the last download date shows correctly. It did appear that it was downloading it just not saving the file to the directory. I have tried saving it to my documents and to the desktop, neither location work. It could possibly be a firewall issue so I will check it on a different computer and network, it does appear to download though it just doesn't appear to write the file. |

| The path needs to be a full path + file name. I figured that out myself because the save location was vague. |

Listings for Canada will not be available with our initial release. We have plans to include them in the future. We will provide further information in about 3 to 4 weeks.

Once listings are available for Canada, will I be able to access the guide through Wirns to update my ReplayTV as I do now with Zap2It, or because the Replay is a commercial product, even though the use technically would not be, will you take the same stand as the folks at Schedules Direct and not allow the data to be used for this purpose.
Replay doesn't recognize Canadians as TV watchers, so they don't make guide data available to us, and right now, come Sept 1 it looks like a lot of us canucks will have to rely on manual timer recordings or use their replays as very expensive door stops!! |

Generally I wouldn't jump in, but just to be clear that is not the Schedules Direct people "taking a stand". It's part of their agreement with TMS to not allow it. I had just assume the CTPVR would have the same restriction as they get the data from TMS as well.
Carm will we be allowed to use the data we get from CT TV in a commercial app or product? If so then cool! That makes it potentially more useful to me |

The conditions by which and to whom these listings are made available to are controlled by TMS. These are sensitive matters in place to protect all their customers. I think the answer would have to be no. But, I would leave that up to their legal dept to decide.

Just remember if you download from Zap2it on the 31st, That data may take you to the middle of Sept. In which time new considerations may open up.

As of right now the answer seems to be no. I would only say that could be change down the road depending on the type of product you are talking about. For right now the only thing clear is the product you use to utilize this data would have to be free.

Perhaps 'take a stand' wasn't the correct vernacular, as I did read why they were passing on the Replay option, but isn't TMS Tribune Media Services, who also provide the listings to Zap2It.
From my understanding, Replay was acceptable there. I'm sure that Replay users weren't the ones making a profit off of the generosity of the Zap2It service. The misuse they cited as one of the reasons for discontinuing the service was from users building PVR's using software such as MythTv and selling these boxes for commercial gain. |

Zap2it is a subsiduary/part of TMS and I'm sure has a lot more flexibility than their customers do |

Mainly I ask because my boss has been wanting to setup some sort of electronic (email, sms, whatever) based service that could auto "alert" users when shows they like are coming on, or with actors that like and such.
Maybe even a regular email sent to them with their preferred listing info and "suggested" other shows they might like. This would all be part of their current account to us And I'm sure would qualify as commercial use. His big reason for holding off was fear of the cost of the listings
Seperately though I'd like to ask. Currently I have mythtv at home, at work and at my parents house.Would I be able to use one account with you for all (in the same city with same listings and such) or buy 3 ? |

I guess I'm lucky. My boss is a geek who loves TV
Seriously though, one of the various services our company currently provides are email/sms and such based weather and news "alerts"/notices among other information. It gets pushed to cellphones, email accounts, certain types of voip phones and such. So this would just be an extension of that. Main reason he didn't do it already was due to the cost of the data. |

I doubt if that is legal. What I understand you want to know if you can just pay for one feed and the distribute that inside your company.
From what I understand 1 person or one household is allowed access per the license agreement. I don't think a company qualifies in that license agreement.
It sounds like you have a geeky cheap boss instead and that is exactly what killed Zap2It in the first place. |
